Comic Type

A poster promoting an event that explores the connection between typography and comic books.

2024 - Poster, Promotional Animation

  • Comic book covers are often more famous than the comics themselves. This poster mimics the layout of a classic comic cover and is paired with an animation that further strengthens the visual and thematic connection to the source material.

  • I began by creating a collage of comic panels, selected for their unique type treatments and visual appeal. This was then paired with informative type made to ensure the collage remained the hero of the design.

Designing a promotional video to be paired with the poster through Artivive.

  • I wanted to further the idea that this was a comic book cover. The animation has the poster peel back and flip through pages like a book to reveal key speakers at this fictional event. This further draws the audience and provides them with a bit more information than they would get from just the poster.

  • Each page that the animation flips. through is one that either features a popular character or a strong use of type. The speakers are paired with their job title and a carousel of work that they took part in. I had the video end with the book closing so that it can loop.
