Designing a title sequence for a psychological thriller.

“The Lighthouse” is a horrifying tale of two lighthouse keepers who go crazy as they are stranded on an island. For this title sequence I sought to capture the eeriness of the story using only stills of the movie. It plays in a square frame to reflect the way the movie was shot. The sequence features a sea shanty by the name “Homeward Bound” to reflect the main conflict of the film.

I began by watching the movie and collecting stills that I felt represented the themes of the film. I then edited the music to sound aged to match the timeframe of the movie. The imagery was ordered to subtly reflect the trajectory of the movie and ending with the blinding light of the lighthouse, exactly how the movie ends. The sequence sets the tone for the movie while revealing nothing about the story.
