I chose to work with A24’s psychological thriller The Lighthouse. My title sequence establishes the time period and eerie tone of the story without giving away any major plot details. I wanted to use the already stellar cinematography in the film and edit it to communicate a sense of isolation, tension, and suspense. The song I chose to play over the shifting images is titled “Homeward Bound,” a traditional sea shanty sung by sailors who were soon to return home. All of these elements come together to properly prepare the audience for the thrilling movie that is The Lighthouse.
